Top League is dedicated to presenting Polish and world cinema as well as familiarising audiences with the creators. It enables a closer look at the greatest achievements of Polish and international filmmaking, with special attention given to documentary forms. The block is geared at a broad audience, and for the first time this year - including the youngest viewers as well.
With this film Andrzej Wajda’s international fame began. This is the second part in the war trilogy, an adaptation of a short story by Jerzy Stefan Stawiński. A terrifying study of the agony of the Warsaw Uprising. A unit of Home Army soldiers is trying to cross the sewers to the still defending Śródmieście. Uprising participants have to live among rats and faeces. The film received a Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film is an adaptation of a short story by Janusz Głowacki and tells a lot of truth about complicated male-female relations. The main character, Włodek, is a married bookstore employee who one day starts an affair with a young girl. Irena, however, turns out to be more possessive than his wife. Great roles in this film were played by Małgorzata Braunek, Zygmunt Malanowicz and Hanka Skarżanka.
